Our Values
When you join NELFT you’ll be joining a Trust where patients, service users and carers are our top priority. Working with our colleagues, patients and carers we have co-produced three new values that we aim to embed within our culture here at NELFT. They are:
- We are kind
- We are respectful
- We work together with our communities
NELFT is dedicated to nurturing a just and compassionate culture for all of our staff.
What do our values mean?
We are kind
What does being kind mean?
“I once saw a sign that stuck with me, it said ‘Act of Kindness – Pass It On’. Kindness is about helping others and making someone’s day easier, even in the smallest way. Whether it’s a listening ear, a calm presence, or a thoughtful compliment – these gestures are free and impactful. Kindness is contagious, let’s pass it on. “ Gul Begum, Involvement Representative
We are respectful
What does being respectful mean?
“Respect means valuing each person for who they are, making sure everyone feels heard, valued, and treated with dignity. As a Black Muslim mother, I appreciate when my intersectional needs are considered such as a prayer space, a child-friendly meeting, or culturally appropriate support. Respect is being open-minded and appreciating each other.” Racheal Howison, Involvement Representative.
We work together with our communities
What does working together with our communities mean?
“The best care happens when we work together – it’s about listening, connecting, and taking action. When services come to where people are such as schools, community centres, and local spaces – it makes all the difference. Prevention is better than cure, and by engaging early, we help people live happier and healthier lives.” John Lutchmiah, Involvement Representative.
These three values help us to strive to provide the best care by the best people.

At NELFT we treat others how we would like to be treated, we listen and we create relationships based on honesty.

NELFT are as committed to the staff as they are to the patients, there’s a strong emphasis on looking after our own mental health and you can access things like support groups and yoga sessions which really helps.
Rukshana
Occupational Therapist
Since joining NELFT I’ve been promoted to a Band 6 role. Despite being dyslexic and dyspraxic I’ve been really supported by my manager and the Trust to progress and develop. I’m so proud to be working in a career I love, and part of the community at NELFT.
Georgina
Occupational Therapist

One of the best things about NELFT is the training and development opportunities. If you’re someone who’s really looking to develop and progress then NELFT would be a great place for you. Personally I’m just finishing a non medical prescribing course – if I had self funded that it would have been really expensive but NELFT have covered the cost and it’ll benefit me, as well as our team, and patients.
Nyasha
Operations Manager Crisis Team
At NELFT we’re committed to continually making positive changes to the workplace, I’ve been supported to access external training courses such as AMPS and engage with the Trust’s Quality Improvement Training as well as wider training opportunities.
Selena Walters
Occupational Therapist

My role allows me to draw on my strengths and skills from previous work and training. It also allows for learning and developing new skills. My work is appreciated and valued and I am working with great people who share knowledge and support, as well as questioning processes to ensure we are getting the best results.
