Pharmacy

Our pharmacy team’s expertise is diverse, whether specialising in mental health or stroke rehabilitation, we work closely with patients and colleagues in the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure a holistic approach to care and that each individual gains the optimum benefit from their medicines. As an organisation, we are invested in development of the workforce and recognise that well supported staff, keen to professionally develop, will ultimately deliver higher quality care for patients.

Pharmacists

Pharmacists are an integral part of the multidisciplinary team, they liaise and work alongside other healthcare professionals across a wide range of settings to support the safe and effective use of medicines. The pharmacist’s role has expanded to support the increased patient need, including Non-Medical Prescribing, Advanced Clinical Practice and Consultant Pharmacists. As an innovative and forward-thinking Trust, we actively encourage progression and have pharmacists practicing with these advanced skill sets.

“I have worked in NELFT for five years and was recently appointed to the role of Consultant Pharmacist for child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS). NELFT are the first mental health trust to create this role and I am proud to be part of a wonderful team of NELFT healthcare professionals who support all the children’s mental health services across Essex and Kent and London, undertaking activities within education and training, research, leadership and management to improve outcomes for children and young people living with mental illness.”

Being a pharmacy technician is a challenging but rewarding career. There are so many different aspects of pharmacy that you could choose to do from manufacturing in aseptics, medicines management, stores and procurement, clinical trials and more. It gives you a chance to connect with people from all walks of life, to help people and make a difference. I love my job as a technician and carry such passion for my role.

Pharmacy Support Staff

Pharmacy support staff are central to the pharmacy team, in particular they support the safe storage and handling of medicines. From this role, development opportunities are available to progress to other positions such as Pharmacy Technician.

I thoroughly enjoy working as a Pharmacy Technician in Mental Health as it brings opportunities to help and change the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in our society. This helps to make a significant difference to the patients, their families, and whole communities. This role allows me to learn extensively every day about the treatments of mental health patients. It also means I can work in an area of one of my passions which is fulfilling and gives me a huge sense of pride.
